AUTOGLASS AND ICE DO'S AND DON'T'S

2/17/2015

DO NOT bang on, beat on, etc with your hand or other objects on any glass  to try to remove the ice! Period! It can and will crack! Especially if you have any chips in it already. This includes back glass, door glass etc.

DO NOT pour hot water on chips - it will make them run (spread)

DO NOT put sheets, blankets, etc over the glass. All that will do is freeze them to your glass, get stuck, make it worse and really no way to get it off safely.

DO NOT run your back glass windshield wipers constantly.

DO NOT run your windshield wipers when blocks of ice are frozen to them.

DO turn your vehicle on and let it melt the ice itself via defrost setting, heat on dashboard, etc. Lock your car up and wait inside your house/office staying warm! Yes you will waste gas, but that is less expensive then replacing your glass!

DO use PLASTIC ice scrapers, but always be gentle and patient, as this can cause damage as well. (Dollar General, pack of 3 for $1-$2)

DO pour water not HOT, on your mirrors to remove the ice.

BMW's Airbag Light

10/30/2014

Having been on the winning end of many BMW's over the years I was shocked when a customer recently called me to let me know he had an airbag light come on after a window regulator replacement I had done.

You see if you unplug the airbag and power up the vehicle it throws a code that the side airbags are malfunctioning. After a day or two of research and a few phone calls to a couple of mechanic buddies, I was able to get the light reset and the car back on the road.

Problem solved and another customer happy.
That's what it's all about at J and L Auto Glass.
If you are experiencing your airbag light coming on on your BMW - and you are in Tennessee call me, I'll take care of you.

    Meet the Owner & Technician:

With 23+ years (and counting) I have paid my dues in this industry. I worked my way up from warehouse & driver to glass technician with larger auto glass shops: Harmon Auto Glass, Safelite Auto Glass, Lawrence Glass and a few smaller autoglass shops. Some brick and mortar and some mobile. For 9 years now I have been the proud owner and technician of my own fully mobile auto glass shop-J and L Auto Glass.
